Pear body shape
“Pear” usually describes a fuller lower body (hips/thighs) with a narrower upper body. In BodyTypeCalc’s measurement-based system, it most often maps to the Triangle category. This page focuses on practical measuring, style, and training pointers.
How to measure accurately
- Measure hips at the widest point; measure waist consistently (navel level or narrowest point).
- If you’re near a boundary, add high-hip and repeat 2–3 times to average.
- See the full measuring guide
Style pointers (high intent)
- Balance the silhouette: add structure/interest up top (necklines, shoulders, color), keep bottoms cleaner and streamlined.
- Define the waist: high-rise and clear waist definition usually work well.
- Jeans/pants: straight, bootcut, and wide-leg often balance hips/thighs; avoid cuts that bind at the widest point.
Training focus (posture + strength)
- Upper body/back: strengthening lats, upper back, and shoulders can improve posture and visual balance.
- Lower body: keep glute/leg strength, and add core + hip stability work to improve mechanics and posture.
