Body Frame Size FAQ

How do I measure my wrist for frame size?

Wrap a measuring tape around your wrist just below the wrist bone (at the narrowest point). Measure in centimeters or inches — our calculator handles both. If you don't have a tape, wrap your thumb and middle finger around the opposite wrist: if they overlap, you likely have a small frame; if they touch, medium; if there's a gap, large.

Why does body frame size matter?

Frame size helps determine your ideal body weight range. A large-framed person at the same height and weight as a small-framed person will have very different body composition. Frame size also affects BMI interpretation — someone with a large frame may have a higher BMI without excess fat.

Is body frame size genetic?

Yes. Frame size is largely determined by bone structure, which is genetic. While you can't change your bone structure, understanding your frame size helps you set realistic weight, fitness, and body composition goals.

What's the difference between frame size and body type?

Frame size refers to your bone structure (small/medium/large skeleton), while body type (hourglass, pear, rectangle, etc.) describes your overall proportions and fat/muscle distribution. They're complementary — use our body type calculator to find your shape after determining your frame size.
